PIONEER’S CDJ-1000 DIGITAL TURNTABLE HERALDS A NEW
GENERATION IN CREATIVE DJ TECHNOLOGY

LONG BEACH, Calif., May 16, 2001 — Can you imagine powering down, scratching, or doing a backspin ...with a CD? Well, Pioneer has now made that possible, by faithfully emulating the art of turntablism – in the digital domain.

Pioneer’s futuristically-designed CDJ-1000, based on their ground-breaking CDJ footprint, defines a new generation of professional DJ’s looking to push their mixing skills to the limit and harness the freedom and flexibility of digital technology.

The CDJ-1000 is not only the future of DJ’ing but more importantly, it is packed with a range of innovative new features such as - Vinyl Emulation, WAVE Display, MMC and Loop In and Out Adjust & Legato Link. The CDJ-1000 provides a creative universe limited only by the imagination of the DJ.

With its design rooted in CD and sampling technology, the CDJ-1000 is modeled after a traditional Vinyl Turntable. The world’s largest touch-sensitive Jog Dial allows DJs to treat CDs exactly the same way as they would a vinyl record --cueing, pitch-bending, back-spinning and even scratching.

The CDJ-1000, loaded with a plethora of world-first’s, has an ingenious WAVE form display, which reads every track on the CD and displays the corresponding sound level in a graphical format. This enables the DJ to cue up a track just like they would with vinyl by reading track break-points in advance for use as a mix point - as if checking the position of the stylus in the groove of a record “Groove Contrast”. There is also a Zoom facility, which lets the DJ scroll along the Wave display to obtain even greater information.

The CDJ-1000 is also the world’s first Digital Turntable to incorporate removable memory technology - MMC (MultiMediaCard). The memory feature allows the DJ to store 1 million favorite cue and loop points, as well as all the track WAVE data from the CD onto the card for future use. There is also a back up function that duplicates cards in case of loss. So now for the first time it’s possible for the DJ to carry carefully created pre-set cue and loop points to the gig and not have to work totally on the fly. The DJ then can then concentrate on mixing, using effects and most importantly keeping the dance floor moving.

Other great features include an instant reverse activated by the flick of a switch with no loss of tempo or pitch. Three Hot Cue buttons that can be used to memorize cue points on different CD tracks and then instantly recalled at any time during a mix – this can also be used like a sampler to jump to vocals, stabs or breaks. And a Real Time Seamless Loop that for the first time lets the DJ adjust the In and Out points of the loop – just like having a sampler at your finger tips.

The CDJ-1000 invites the DJ into the unknown with a fusion of both Vinyl and CD format features to create a truly unique digital product that will define a new chapter in the world of the Pro DJ. But be warned…the CDJ-1000 may have more creative power than you can handle.
The CDJ-1000 will be available in the stores early July 2001.

MultiMediaCard (MMC)

The MultiMediaCard standard grew out of a joint development between SanDisk Corporation and Siemens AG/Infineon Technologies AG, and was introduced in November 1997. MultiMediaCards weigh less than two grams and, about the size of a postage stamp, are the world’s smallest (24mm x 32mm x 1.4 mm) removable solid-state memory solutions for mobile applications, such as MP-3 music players, portable video games, laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile telephones and digital cameras. These convenient, reliable, rugged and lightweight standardized data carriers store up to 64 Mbytes, sufficient for 64 minutes of MP-3 digital music, or approximately 40,000 book pages.

MultiMediaCards use ROM technology for read-only applications and Flash technology for read/write applications. The cards are fast for excellent system performance; energy efficient for prolonged battery life in portable products; and cost-efficient for use in systems sold at consumer price points. The simple molded package has a seven pad (pin) serial interface. This easy-to-install simple serial interface offers easy integration into various devices regardless of the microprocessor used. The MultiMediaCard has a wide variety of uses in some of the most exciting products on the market today.
